The Pulp And Paper Procedure Followed By Paper Manufacturers
The base for the paper manufacturing process remains the same for all types of papers, but a few additional steps are included depending on the paper quality and use. The paper manufacturers need to ensure that the manufacturing unit is equipped with all the proper safety measures and that the employees are well-trained in handling all the machinery. The workers should strictly abide by the approved manufacturing process. A safe workplace is always the right way to increase productivity and operational efficiency.
Manufacturing
Process
The manufacturing process at Balaji Chem Solutions consists of 4 sub procedures
Pulp Manufacturing
The
logs of trees are tumbled in big drums to separate the bark from it. After
that, they are moved into a grinder where the wood turns into a pulp. Next, the
pulp goes through a filter to remove impurities and foreign objects.
Another way of doing this is by boiling the log chips in a chemical solution of sodium sulfide and sodium hydroxide. The chips dissolve and turn into a pulp-like consistency. Color or bleach can be added to the pulp at this stage to add pigmentation to it. Once the pulp is prepared, it is sent to the paper plant for further processing.
Beating
Next, the slurry is poured into the machine beater, a large tub where the pulp is squeezed and pounded. This stage is the appropriate time to add clays, chalk, and titanium oxide to the slurry. The additives add opacity to the paper. And sizing like rosin, gum, and starch gives it its ink absorption properties.
Pulp becomes paper
Now it's time to solidify the pulp and make it into paper. Giant automated machines are used to feed and pump the pulp. Through a moving belt, the pulp is fed into the machine, and it passes through rollers, and a series of suction devices below the belt drains the water from it.
Finishing
Lastly,
the dried paper is rolled in large reels and goes through the finishing touches
before being sent out for use. The texture of the paper gets smoothened to give
it a shine. It also passes through sizing material and finally one last time through
extremely smooth rollers before it is cut into desired sizes.
The
paper is all set to be sent out to different manufacturers to make notebooks
and other supplies. Also, the paper manufacturers need to be
careful when handling the machines as it has many nips and sharp edges that can
hurt them.
Most
paper manufacturers are committed to maintaining good paper quality and using
recycled paper for manufacturing. The companies try to plant as many trees as
possible as a part of their social responsibility.
